Igniters

Igniters from Forney Corporation provide the reliability, stability and repeatability that is required by the electric power industry, pulp and paper industry and many other large industrial users around the world.

  • DURAFire Oil Igniter - features a unique "Protected Primary Combustion Zone," resulting in a highly repeatable and stable flame. This oil igniter's versatility allows it to either be located in the center or the annulus of a wall fired burner.
  • MAXFire Gas Igniter - also utilizes a "Protected Primary Combustion Zone" to provide reliable ignition and stable operation.
  • Flexible Single Tube Igniter (Gas or Oil) - designed for use in a tilting tangentially fired boiler. It is located within the main fuel windbox in-between the fuel nozzles. The FST can fire gas or oil as a class one igniter or warm-up gun.
  • Q-87 Oil or Gas Igniter - is primarily used when steam atomization is required, although it can also be atomized with air or by mechanical means. It's 4-inch OD allows for easy retrofit into all wall fired applications.
  • Horn Igniter (Oil and/or Gas) - incorporates the advantages of the DURAFire and MAXFire igniters into the Horn Igniter.

Flame Detectors

Flame detectors from Forney provide the safety, discrimination and low maintenance that is required by the electric power industry, pulp and paper industry and many other large industrial users around the world. Forney Corporation is a leading supplier of flame detection equipment for multi burner applications. Our flame detectors can be found on all types of applications including wall fired, tangentially fired, arch fired and cyclone fired boilers as well as Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) applications.

Forney has been providing flame detection for over 50 years starting from the early development of the ultraviolet sensors most commonly used for natural gas and light oils and infrared sensors used for coal, lignite and heavy oil. Forney's three distinct flame detection systems offer unique features to meet the industry's needs.

Intelligent Dynamic Detector System
Each detector in the Inteligent Dynamic Detector (IDD) series requires an amplifier and is fiber optic compatible.

  • The IDD II Detector is used for coal and heavy oil.

  • Natural gas and light oils use the IDD IIU , IDD UV or the UV-4 .
  • The DR6101E Amplifier features the capability of supporting two detectors (also compatible with  UV-4).
  • The IDD Amplifier supports one detector but provides the widest range of tuning capabilities.

Both the DR6101E and the IDD amplifier are available as rack mount or panel mount.

UniFlame Self Contained Detector System
The
UniFlame features the detector processor and amplifier output contacts all within the same housing, eliminating the need for supporting cabinets. This modern system allows both automatic and manual tuning capabilities for both infrared and ultra violet applications.

Digital Profile Self Tuning Detector System
The
Digital Profile Detector features a compact housing for both the flame sensor and signal processor but requires a remote cabinet for the power supply and output contacts. This system allows both local and remote automatic tuning capabilities for infrared and ultra violet versions.

Burner Management Systems

Forney Corporation is one of the original Burner Management System (BMS) suppliers in the United States for multi-burner boilers. Forney has been designing and fabricating burner management systems since the early 1950's. Forney continues to be a leading BMS supplier for all types of boilers including; wall fired, tangentially fired, arch fired and cyclone fired. Today Forney continues to be a leading supplier of BMS integrated into Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) platforms.

Burner Management Systems from Forney provide the safety, operator interface and low maintenance that is required by the electric power industry, pulp & paper industry and many other large industrial users around the world. A typical BMS system from Forney will include the following:

  • NFPA compliant hardware and software

  • Partitioning of hardware for reliability, safety and maintenance
  • Project management
  • Hardwired direct trip panels and fuel trip relays
  • Factory acceptance test at Forney, the hardware supplier's facility or the plant site
  • Hardware platforms include DCS or PLC
  • Graphics for operator CRT's
  • Man machine interface
  • Communications, packaging and hardware stag

Duct Burners

Duct Burners from Forney Corporation provide the latest designs in duct burner technology. Our full range of duct burners meet the complex needs of the Electric Power, Industrial, Chemical and Refinery Industries, plus Institutions such as colleges and hospitals. Our typical scope of supply includes the burner, fuel control skid, scanner air blowers and burner management system.

Forney has over 300 units installed worldwide with a total installed capacity of over 8500 MW. Our duct burners can be applied to a wide variety of applications and can be categorized by some common features:

Gaseous Fuels

adVantage Duct Burner - best suited for low oxygen/high water applications when supplemental firing Turbine Exhaust Gas (TEG), or where low emissions are needed.
Standard Duct Burner - with its high configuration capability, this design has a wide variety of uses and is well-suited for Fresh Air Firing, Process Heating, SCR Reheating and Ammonia/Urea vaporization.
Branched Element Duct Burner - primarily used in smaller combustion turbines and fresh air-fired applications found in the cogeneration units of institutions.
Refinery - in many instances, the fuel may allow the use of our standard duct burner. In supplemental firing cases where coking is probable, we offer a side-fired burner to reduce the heating effects of the TEG.

Oil and Liquid Fuels
adVantage Oil
- adVantage technology combined with proven side-fired oil burners for applications with supplemental firing and improved emission performance

Burners

Forney packaged burners are carrying the load in industrial and institutional steam plants, utility power plants, refineries, pulp and paper plants and low NOx retrofits. Forney can provide low NOx, low excess air, and process heating burners firing a wide range of fuels, including refinery gases and waste fuels. Forney's line of low NOx burners are highly efficient, state-of-the-art burner systems. Using unique fuel staging techniques, our low NOx burners accomplish NOx emissions reductions to 20 ppm with little or no flue gas recirculation. Forney burners maintain stable combustion conditions and also limit CO and other air pollution emissions to extremely low levels

Founded in 1927, Forney has supplied thousands of traditional burners and over 400 low NOx burner installations worldwide. Typical applications include the following:

  • Watertube Boilers - Packaged (single burner applications) and Field Erected (multiple burner applications) with burner capacities to 300 MMBTU/HR
  • Firetube / Firebox Boilers - burner capacities of 60 to 1500 HP
